Fortress Metz - Fort "Aisne"

This German fort was built from 1904 and 1912 and was armed with ten guns (4 x 150mm, 4 x 100mm and 2 x 77mm). The fort consists of several independent fortifications. During the First World War, it fired on French positions. It was occupied by French troops in November 1918.

During the Interbellum, the fort was used by the French army to store heavy artillery. In 1942, an underground torpedo factory was established in the fort. In 1944, the U.S. Army launched an offensive against German troops in Metz and this fort saw heavy fighting during the course of the operation.
