This memorial commemorates the residents of Elsene who were killed or missing in World War I and World War II.
On the square is the "Monument of Remembrance" or the monument to the inhabitants of Ixelles who died on the Field of Honor and was inaugurated on 19 July 1926. The square got its current shape and name as a result of the erection of this monument.
The monument consists of a bronze statue designed by Charles Samuel (1862-1938) and stone sculptures by Marcel Rau (1887-1966).
The stela was made by the marble worker Émile Beernaert, who had a business opposite the Ixelles cemetery since the early 20th century.
At the top it says "A nos héros - To our heroes".
The top row of plates shows the victims of the First World War, the bottom row shows the names of the Second World War.
