War memorial of Ronse to commemorate the military and the civilian victims of the First World War.
The monument to the war victims of the First World War was designed by architect Valentin Vaerwyck. The sculpture was made by Godfried Devreese from Schaarbeek and Oscar Sinia.
The monument was inaugurated on June 3, 1923.
A square crowned pillar rests on a high plinth. A naked male figure rests against the square shaft in Euville stone, partially covered by the Belgian tricolour. The coats of arms of the country, province, city and war fighters are displayed below the crown.
At the front above the figure it says in both national languages:
" To the soldiers
from Ronse
killed
for the fatherland"
On the sides are dozens of names of the fallen, also those who died in exile.
