Fort No 47a in Wegrzce belongs to the southern front of the old Cracow Fortress. It is one of the two major armored forts established in a fortress in 1892-96, considered the best preserved post-Austrian fort in Europe.
During World War 2, the Germans held out for 3 days against the Red Army. The fighting was intense and the scars of that period can still be seen on fort Wegrzce. The fort underwent reconstruction in 2004-2005 and now it serves as offices of one of the biggest shipping and transport companies in Poland.
