Gorzyczki Labor Camp (Polenlager 169)

Labor camp for Poles, which was established in an old coal mining settlement. The camp was in service between May 1942 and 1945.

The camp held 1.500 Poles (including 100 children), who were forced to work in the agriculture. Living conditions in 'Polenlager 169' were very poor. In 1945 (shortly after the liberation), the bodies of 268 camp victims were discovered and exhumed. A collective grave with 117 burials can be found at the cemetery of Gorzyce.

The camp today:
Today this settlement and former camp is used as primary school. The building of the transport depot at Lesna street, holds a memorial plaque in memory of 'Polenlager 169'.
