Moringen Concentration Camp

KZ Moringen was one of the first Nazi-concentration camps established. The camp held successively men, woman and children.

The first camp (April 1933 - November 1933) held mainly men. Many of them were communists. Before the closure, the prisoners were deported to other concentration camps.

The second camp (October 1933 - March 1938) held mainly woman. They were trade union members, prostitutes or Jehova's witnesses. Before the closure, the prisoners were deported to KZ Lichtenberg.

The third camp (June 1940 - April 1945) held mainly boys between the age of 12 till 22. The camp was liberated on 9 April 1945. At least 56 prisoners perished in the Moringen youth concentration camp.

The camp today:
It is possible to visit the Gedenkstätte KZ Moringen eV in the complex. Most of the original buildings are demolished.
