Notre-Dame de la Garde

This cathedral was turned into a fortress during the German occupation of France (1940-1944). On 24 August 1944, the 1st company of the 7th Regiment of Algerian Riflemen stormed the cathedral and a short but heavy fighting occured.

The damage from the fighting can still be seen today.
