Memorial 11th Port Vierville-sur-Mer

Text on the Plaque:
Headquarters of the Eleventh Port United States Army during the invasion 8 June - 21 Juillet 1944.
Chateau de Vierville.

11th Port was a part of the Provisional Engineer Special Brigade Group and responsible for the harbour works on Mulberry A. Mulberry A was the American artificial harbour off the coast near Vierville-sur-Mer (Omaha).
Mulberry A was taken in use on June 16th and suffered a major blow with the heavy storm on the 20th.


The vehicles on the photo only were there for the commemoration of 60th anniversary of D-Day in 2004. There is a little museum nearby (Musée D-Day Omaha).
