This is the entrance to Fort Boncelles, built in 1888. The fort served in both World Wars, where it was attacked by the German army. Before World War II, the fort was modernized.
The fort had two turrets with a 210 mm howitzer, one turret with a 150 mm cannon, two turrets with two 120 mm cannons each and four turrets with a 57 mm cannon.
In the block of the entrance gate were the fort's guardrooms. On the left side the guardroom that was manned in times of war. On the right side the guardroom used in times of peace.
On both the left and right sides the blocks ran through. These are not visible because soil was later poured over them. These blocks on the left side included a room for the chaplain, a technical room, a mortuary (capacity 20), warehouses and latrines. On the right side were the kitchen, washrooms, warehouses for clothing, food and potatoes and the latrines.
The fort is not open to the public, but can be visited through a guide.
