On the Poelaertplein is the monument that commemorates the support of the Belgian population for the British prisoners of war, a British recognition.
The memorial was commissioned by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and designed by British sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger.
In 1923 it was unveiled by Edward VIII, the King of the United Kingdom.
The monument depicts a British and a Belgian soldier, they stand guard.
In addition, the text in both national languages:
"Founded by the British people and offered to commemorate the cordial assistance of the Belgian civilians to the wounded soldiers and prisoners. Generous citizens enjoyed true charitable people whose right nature is not forgotten ".
Above the texts are reliefs of Belgian farmers helping wounded British soldiers.
