Memorial Killed French Soldiers

Translation of the text on the information sign at the memorial:

"From the first days of the First World War, German troops were present in Rombach and their scouts, Uhlans, conducted horse patrols along the border. On August 7, 1944, French troops of the 3rd escadron of the 9th régiment de dragons, who had gone on reconnaissance on Belgian territory, moved from Neufchâteau to Wolvelange. On the way back, two scouts, Brigadier Martel and Cavalryman Pecchini, who were patrolling the ridge, were killed by Uhlans. Their bodies, buried in the Martelange cemetery, were repatriated to Vaucresson on May 3, 1921. The Fedération nationale des Combattants had this memorial erected on the spot where they were shot; the inauguration took place on August 31, 1924."
