German War Cemetery Vermandovillers

The Vermandovillers German War Cemetery contains 22,665 German war graves from the First World War.

Starting in 1920, this German assembly cemetery was established by the French administration to interred the German dead from the region south of the Somme.

A total of 22,632 fallen lie buried here, of which 13,200 are in 14 mass graves of which 10,610 could not be identified. Of the 9,455 interred individually, 379 could not be identified.

The 32 Jewish dead were interred under a stele.

Buried in this cemetery are 2 young expressionist authors and poets, Reinhard "Johannes" Sorge (24 Years), killed July 20, 1916 at Ablaincourt and Alfred Lichtenstein (25 Years), killed September 25, 1914 at Vermandovillers.
