Stumbling Stones Rappstraße 3

These memorial stones (so called Stolpersteine of stumbling blocks) commemorate:
Benjamin Marchbein (born 1864, murdered in Theresienstadt on 2-8-1943)
Ignatz Marchbein (born 1880, murdered in Auschwitz in 1944)
Elsa Marchbein (born 1909, murdered in Auschwitz in 1943)
Sabine Marchbein (born 1882, murdered in Theresienstadt on 4-10-1943)
Elias Marchbein (born 1891, murdered in Auschwitz in 1944)
Paula Marchbein (born 1900, murdered in Auschwitz in 1944)
Edith Marchbein (born 1922, murdered in Auschwitz in 1944)

The small brass plaques, in the pavement in front of houses of which the (mostly Jewish) residents were persecuted or murdered by the Nazis, mention the name, date of birth and place (mostly a concentration camp) and date of death.

In many other cities, mainly in Germany but also in other European countries, the memorials also can be found. There are already many thousands of these plaques and their number is still counting. Almost all Stolpersteine are laid by the German artist himself, Gunter Demnig.
