British Bunkers Rijselseweg

On the site ofLandhof Farm stood once a small castle in Louis XVth style. From 1914 onwards this was the headquarters of an English artillery battalion, in 1917 of an Australian artillery battalion. From this location they mainly fired at Hill 60 and later at Wijtschate and Messines.

After the castle was bombed by German artillery, four bunkers were built by the English. The Australians built three more in the winter of 1917. In total there are seven bunkers. The Australian bunkers had chimneys. In one of them you can still see the remains of a cot and in another, decorative stones from the former castle were bricked in the chimney.
