This German mine shaft dates from the First World War. This masonry shaft is one (1) of 29 shafts dug by the Germans. Many of the mines have been used to disrupt Allied excavation efforts. On June 7, 1917, 19 of the 24 Allied mines exploded. The area is full of crater scars from the mine war that raged here.
The large craters of Petit bois are a few hundred meters away.
