This plaque commemorates US Captain Theodore W. Large of the 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion who fell here on 2 September 1944. He was killed by the fire of a German soldier standing by the door of the upper floor of the hayloft, near the plaque. He was accompanying one of his platoons and had just freed hostages who were to be executed by the retreating Germans.
The text on the plaque is not entirely accurate. He was in command of 'B' Company, not Battalion.
