The construction of this heavy bunker began around July 1939.
7 defenders of the 80 men strong garrison perished defending it and it took the Germans 2 days (2-3 September 1939) to capture it. .
In 1944, the Germans reused the former Polish fortifications in the Węgierska Górka region intending to halt the Russian advance. The German defence was no match for the overwhelming power of the red army and was forced to retreat.
The bunker today:
Today, the bunker is a museum. The exhibits are mainly about the battle of the Węgierska Górka region.
A plaque attached on the bunker commemorates the soldiers who perished while defending it.
