The hospital bunker is similar to the type that can be found in or near the heavy naval batteries, such as the Marine Küstenbatterie Oldenburg, Prinz Heinrich, M IV, Todt, Grosser Kurfürst and Friedrich August. It consists of two entrances and six rooms. As such it was able to deal with fairly serious casualties. More serious casualties would be transported to the large hospital at Hardinghen.

From early on in the war the strongpoint had a medical function, as it provided medical services for units in a wide area, more specifically naval batteries of the Marineartillerieabteilung 242.
In 1944 the strongpoint was the army headquarters of the 4. Kompanie/I Battalion/Grenadierregiment 115.

The communications bunker functioned as the command post. It has 2 entrances and three rooms.
Widerstandsnest 149 Detmold was only equipped with three field infantry positions.
