This war cemetery contains 2.438 German war graves from the First World War. The German soldiers buried here, fell on the Col de Linge.
The cemetery was built by the French military authorities for bodies recovered from temporary graves. The cemetery is maintained by the Volksbund Deutsche Kreigsgraberfursorge (German War Graves Commission or "Volksbund") based on the War Graves Agreement concluded between Germany and France. The Commission did the first improvements in 1926. Starting in 1966, the Commission has undertaken a series of improvements, replacing wooden crosses with metal crosses and re-landscaping the wooded cemetery.
