Caverne du Dragon

The Caverne du Dragon is a former quarry and site of heavy fighting during the First World War. The quarry can be visited these days.

From April to June 1917, the Germans sought to protect themselves from French gas attacks and incursions by erecting walls inside the cavern. These walls formed an internal boundary during simultaneous occupation of the cavern' by the French and Germans from July to November 1917. This dangerous cohabitation was probably punctuated by sporadic fighting.

The quarry also contained a underground cemetery.
