Memorial Cemetery East Andijk

At the cemetery in Andijk is a monument in memory of four resistance fighters who were murdered on May 1, 1945 in Zwaag.

Five men from an Andijker resistance group were arrested by the Landwacht on May 1, 1945. Gosse Dijkstra was murdered on the spot. Jan Ruiter managed to escape by bicycle. Ruurd Dijkstra, Johannes Smink and Jan Kort were shot without trial, in front of the town hall in Zwaag in the presence of a number of Germans and Land guards. A shot in the back and then a shot in the head.
