The Dutch group shelters, part of the New Dutch Water Line, were designed as a shelter by shelling and bombing, if the trenches between the shelters did not give enough coverage.
The bunkers were built between 1915 and 1918. There were several different types. The shelters were built on parts of the New Dutch Water Line that could not be inundated.
This group shelter was located at the Afsluitdijk and would be covered with sand when the dyke was enlarged. Therefor it was replaced to the current location.
