During the landing operation at Dieppe, two Spitfires from Squadron 403 of RAF Mansto collided with each other and crashed on St. Aubin-Le-Cauf, five miles southeast of Dieppe. Both pilots died in the air crash. Both pilots were officially listed as missing in action over enemy territory. After the crash, their bodies were buried by the Germans in the cemetery of Saint-Aubin-le-Cauf.
