Maginot Line - Ouvrage Simserhof

The Simserhof ouvrage, in the Rohrbach sector, is part of the French Maginot Line. It was built between 1929 and 1937. It had a crew of 876 officers and soldiers, divided between infantry, artillery and engineers.
It has two entrance blocks and 8 combat blocks with an imposing armament, which consisted of
eleven twin machine guns, four anti-tank guns, eight 75mm guns, four 81mm mortars and four 135mm howitzers.
In 1940 there was more than 3 weeks of fighting over the ouvrage. The armistice came into effect on June 22 and it was not until June 30, 1940 that the ouvrage surrendered on the orders of the French army command.
Today it is a museum with guided tours.
