Memorial Rendert de Poel Borger

Memorial for Rendert de Poel, director of the Employment Office.

De Poel was shot on September 20, 1943 together with nine other members of the resistance on the Witterveld near Assen. Their bodies were cremated in Camp Westerbork, where their ashes were secretly buried in a bush behind the crematorium. Only in 1948 was the location known and on 3 May 1949 a monument was unveiled on the grave by relatives of the victims.
