Posen was the first Nazi concentration camp established in occupied Poland at fortress VII near the city of Posen (today: Poznan) and was used between 1939 and 1944.
It was not only used as a concentration camp, but as a transit camp, Gestapo-prison and extermination camp.
In 1939, the Nazi's committed for the first time mass murders with poison gas. The victims were gassed in a primitive chamber, codenamed bunker no .17. In 1944, the camp was closed.
