During World War Two Villa Fossati, known as Villa Triste, was used by Pietro Koch and his gang to torture Italian partisans. In the summer of 1944 powerful spotlights were installed to illuminate the garden, barbed wire was put on the walls and five cells were built in the cellar. Osvaldo Valenti, a famous Italian actor, sometimes went into Villa Triste, but no one still knows why. In december 1944 Justice Minister of the RSI Piero Bisenti closed this place because of Milan citizens and cardinal Schuster's protests.
