The Maginot Line's Otterbiel fort was a component of the Secteur Fortifié de Rohrbach.
The garrison consisted of 200 soldiers and 7 officers from the 37th RIF (Fortress Infantry Regiment).
Due to French budget restrictions, a planned 5th block was never constructed.
The fort was attacked and taken by elements of the U.S. 100th Infantry Division in March 1945 with few casualties.
The fort today:
It is still owned by the French army.
