The Zuydcoote battery is an18th century fortification.
30 French soldiers died here as a result of a Stuka bombardment on 3 June 1940.
During the occupation, the Germans upgraded Zuydcoote as part of the Atlantikwall. It was severely damaged by Canadian combat engineers in 1945.
