Battery "Vara" (1941-1945) was one of the largest German coastal batteries built during the Second World War. The main armament of "Vara" consisted of three 38cm SK C/34 (!) pieces. There should actually be four, one of which was housed in a gun bunker and the other three in an open S169 emplacement. However, the fourth gun did not reach this location, so only the three were placed in the emplacement. After the war, "Vara" was reused by the Norwegian army.
The battery today:
Today, only cannon #2 still stands. The other two were removed by the Norwegian army in the 1960s. The remaining 38cm SK C/34 now serves as a museum and is still in operational condition. The gun bunker and S169 emplacements are also part of the museum.
