Odderøya Fort

Fort Odderøya (built 1667-1914) played a major role in the battle of Kristiansand on 9 April 1940.

During this battle, Odderøya fired a total of 93 shells on the German invasion force. The fort was heavilly bombarded by naval fire and Stukas and exploded after taking a direct hit to its ammunition magazine.

Odderøya defenders suffered 8 deaths and 13 wounded. The Germans dismantled the 21cm battery that same year to relocate the guns to better defensive forts nearby.
