Bridge of 15 August 1944

PONT DU 15 AOÛT 1944
Le 14 août 1944 à 14 heures 30, le village du Vinon
fut bombardé par l’aviation alliée qui voilait faire sauter
le pont et couper le repli de l’armée allemande.
Ce jour-là, 16 personnes trouvèrent la mort.
Pour mettre fin à ces bombardements, les maquisards de
la région entreprirent de dynamiter l’ouvrage
Passants, souvenez-vous de ce sacrifice consenti pour
sauvegarder la liberté de notre pays.

Text on the memorial translated in English:

THE BRIDGE OF 15 AUGUST 1944
On 14 August at 14.30 hrs the village of Vinon
Was bombed by the allied air forces with the aim to blow up the bridge
to cut off the retreat of the German army.
That day 16 people perished.
To end the bomb raids, the local resistance has blown up
the bridge themselves.
Passers-by, please remember this sacrifice
for the freedom of our country.
