At the spot of the former synagogue is this memorial plaque with the following text:
THERE WAS A JEWISH COMMUNITY IN DOESBURG FOR MORE THAN SEVEN CENTURIES. SEVERAL HOUSES HAVE BEEN USED AS A SYNAGOGUE. IN THE YEAR 1800 A NEW SYNAGOGUE WAS BUILT AT THIS LOCATION. THIS SYNAGOGUE WAS IN USE TILL WORLD WAR TWO. BETWEEN 1940 AND 1945 THE JEWISH COMMUNITY WAS CARRIED AWAY TO CONCENTRATION CAMPS; ONLY FEW OF THEM SURVIVED. ON 15 APRIL 1945 THIS SYNAGOGUE WAS SEVERLY DAMAGED WHEN THE MARTINI TOWER WAS BLOWN UP. IT WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1953.[/I]
