Former POW Camp Stalag XVII A

On this location was Stalag XVII A, where in 1941 74.553 POW’s were located.
The majority were French followed by Belgiums and then Polish. After the start of the Balkan war Serbian POW become the second group, who all in turn where then overtaken by the Russian POW’s as the biggest group. Overall from almost every country POW were located here
From 1943 also Italian and from 1944 also Romanian, Bulgarian and Slovakian POW were located here.
After the war the Russian used the Camp for Displaced persons
