Memorial British Pilots Solwaster

Deep in the forests of the Hautes Fagnes, near Solwaster, is a memorial for a British plane which crashed on 29 June 1943.

The zeven crewmembers were killed. Their names were:
F/LT. F.P. Seward
F/LT. E. Sanderson
Sgt. B.E. Lewis
S.O. E.E. Lawton
F/Sgt. K.I. Smith
Sgt. A. Monachan
F/Sgt. D. Horner

Took off 2251 28 June 1943 from Bourn. Shot down by a night-fighter (Lt Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer 11/NJG1) crashing 0130 29 June 1943 at Solwaster (Liege) and on the western side of the Hautes Fagnes 12 km SE of Verviers. The German pilot was the highest-scoring night fighter ace in the history of aerial warfare.
