This memorial commemorates tho who were killed in World War II. The large crucifix was erected after the Second World War by citizens living in the Herungerweg-Toeperweg area to thank God that they survived the war. The smaller cross refers to resistance men Jonker and Reuchlin, brutally executed by the German Sicherheitspolizei on 15th November 1944. A previous, less durable version of this cross was placed on the spot were the bodies were recovered in July 1946, but when a new housing project was planned, it was moved to the present location along the Toeperweg.
