In the back yard of the Great Synagogue of Budapest are an unknown number of Jews, who perished in the Budapest ghetto, buried in mass graves. The fact that there are graves located on the terrain of a synagogue (officially forbidden by the Jewish law) indicates how dramatic the situation at that time was.
Visitors are not allowed inside the cemetery, in order to keep the respect to those who are buried here. Of course relatives can get permission to enter from the Jewish Community Centre.
