This Widerstandsnest (independent infantry strongpoint) was part of the German Atlantic Wall (Atlantikwall).
The OB is an open gun emplacement.
The history of the strongpoint is quite elaborate. In 1941 Widerstandsnest 3 is established at the St. Po farm, which can still be seen today. This strongpoint was later recoded Widerstandsnest 138 "Bochum".
Tactical function of the strongpoint was the defence of the beaches between Widerstandsnest 112 "Duisburg" and the hamlet of Strouanne.
The Germans noticed that further to the north and up the hill, was a location which offered even better views towards Wissant. Here, at a height of approximately 40 metres, they built Widerstandsnest 136 "Essen", itself protected by Widerstandsnest 137 "Dortmund", situated at a height of 80 metres. In May 1944 Widerstandsnest 136 and Widerstandsnest 138 were combined into the single strongpoint Widerstandsnest 114 "Bochum".
