Widerstandsnest 117 Lüdenscheid - FA PAK-Stand

This Widerstandsnest (independent infantry strongpoint) was part of the German Atlantic Wall (Atlantikwall).

Widerstandsnest 117 Lüdenscheid is located in the middle of the Amont dunes, close by a small river; the Ruisseau des Nains. This small river was anything but important, were it not for the fact that it cuts right through the dune, thus providing easy access to the interior for any attacking force.

The Germans soon realized this and kept a watchful eye over it. However, it was not until 1943 that two strongpoints were created: Widerstandsnest 141 Lüdenscheid Ost and Widerstandsnest 159 Lüdenzcheid West. The former of which was the most important one.

Widerstandsnest 141 Lüdenscheid Ost was commanded by Oberfeldwebel Rossel of the 3. and 4. Kompanie/Reserveregiment 26/156 Reservedivision. Unteroffizier Böckenkröger was commander of Widerstandsnest 159 Lüdenscheid West and the 3. Kompanie/Reserveregiment 26/156 Reservedivision.

Tactical function of these two strongpoints was the defence of the debouchement of the river, which at this point creates a small opening in the dunes.

In 1944, the two strongpoints were merged into Widerstandsnest 117 Lüdenscheid.
