Memorial Crashes Sankt Jakob im Walde

This memorial commemorates two US aircraft which crashed on 26 July 1944 in the vicinity van Sankt Jakob im Walde. Eight of the 20 crewmembers were killed.

In July 9th 2022 the renewed memorial for two U.S. B17 crews was unveiled. A new plaque was installed and two artifacts of the planes were fixed to the memorial. From the right artifact a star as symbol for the home state of the crew members was cut out and handed over to the Military Attache` of the U.S. Embassy in Vienna. It shall be a sign of the friendly alliance of the Austrians and U.S. Americans.
