Monument Luite Middendorp

The monument to Luite Middendorp reminds residents of Donkerbroek the villager who died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on April 14, 1945.

Luite Middendorp was born on March 8, 1924 in Terband. The family Middendorp taken home during the occupation the Jewish girl Henny Waas. When the girl was picked up by the Germans on June 24, 1944, son Luite was arrested as punishment for hiding. Via Leeuwarden, Amersfoort, Meppen and Neuengamme Luite came into the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, where he died shortly before the liberation.
