Widerstandsnest 177 Lautenschlag - FA HWB

This Widerstandsnest (independent infantry strongpoint) was part of the German Atlantic Wall (Atlantikwall).

This strongpoint was situated on the Mont aux Loups, which rises to some 50 metres above sea level, thus dominating the western extreme of the Bay of Wissant. The position was not occupied early in the war. Rather, Stützpunkt 190 "Lautenschlag" was located at the nearby Baraque Fricot more to the north and closer to the sea. Interestingly, the name referred to the loud bangs heard when the big guns of the battery Grosser Kurfürst fired.

The strongpoint's main mission, observation, was taken care of by the presence of two observation bunkers: the northern bunker looking out towards the sea; the southern bunker towards Audinghen. The soldiers were housed in R668 and Wellblech personnel bunkers.
