Widerstandsnest 154 Fuchsbau - FA HWB

This Widerstandsnest (independent infantry strongpoint) was part of the German Atlantic Wall (Atlantikwall).

The Pointe de la Courte Dune is, in fact, the extreme western end of the Bay of Wissant. As such it dominates not only the bay to the east, but also the Plage de la Sirène to the west, where there is an easy access to the interior. Finally, the Pointe de la Corte Dune is also tactically ideally placed to protect the "Grosser Kurfürst" heavy battery. Little wonder then that the Germans were interested in this promontory from early on in the war. Thus, from 1941 onwards, the Widerstandsnester 8 and 9 will be located here.

In 1942 the two strongpoints are merged into one.

In 1943 this strongpoint, in turn, is integrated into the larger Stützpunkt 209 Sturmvogel. In this period the first concrete bunkers are also constructed.

In 1944 the Pointe is given its own strongpoint: Widerstandsnest 154 "Fuchsbau". The strongpoint surrendered to the Canadians on 29 September 1944, together with the heavy Gris Nez batteries.

Throughout the war this Widerstandsnest had the following tactical functions:
• beach defence;
• forward defence of the "Grosser Kurfürst" battery;
• sea rescue station.
