German War Cemetery Sandweiler

On this German War Cemetery (Kriegsgräberstätte) 10.913 soldiers are buried. 4829 of them were buried in a mass grave.

They were replaced from more than 150 cemeteries all over Luxembourg.

During the Second World War, thousands of German soldiers lost their lives in the fighting along the Luxembourg borders. These war victims have their final resting place at the military cemetery near Sandweiler. Here are about 10,900 graves.

In the German cemetery, a cross stands high on a circular plateau.
On the circumference of the circle are bronze plates with hundreds of names.

There is a large rectangular plaque with text on the sides: "In common grave / there are 4829 / German soldiers from / World War 1939-45".
Text in the middle: "They fell in the winter fighting 1944-1945".

In addition, there is a smaller plate on the left and right:
"The names of the fallen soldiers who rest here in the common grave are given on the surrounding plates"
"810 dead remained unknown"

Around dozens of plates with thousands of names of German victims, each with their name, date of birth and death.
