Memorial for commemoration
On Good Friday 30 March 1945 the last bomb dropped at this place where once was an air-raid shelter. This marked the end of World War Two in the township of Barlo. The strong air-raid shelter of the Nijhof family was no match for such unscrupulous violence of war.

The Nijhof family with their daughter survived the impact; the Elfers couple and five children of the Weenink family were killed.

The boulders symbolise the heavy and massive grief. The hole with the - broken - glass in one of the boulders shows us a glance at a new future, although that will never be unharmed.

We hope that this place of commemoration will make you think of the great gift of freedom in which we may live now. Let us handle this with care and let's make an effort for freedom for others in this world.
