This memorial commemorates the USS Wahoo (SS-238).
She sank on 11 October 1943, while under attack by 2 or 3 small Japanese ships and an aircraft. The aircraft managed to score a direct hit on her conning tower with a bomb.
She rests at about 200 Feet on the north side of La Perouse Strait, off the north coast of Japan. Her wreck was discovered on 28 July 2006 by Russian divers.
