Between January 1940 and March 1945, 14.500 people were murdered in this former Psychiatric clinic of Hadamar, also known as NS-Tötungsanstalt Hadamar.
The victims (mainly mental patients and people with disabilities) were killed by lethal injections, gassing, medicine and starvation. The institution was liberated on 26 March 1945 by US troops.
Each extermination institute had a garage where the buses were driven in and people were unloaded, after which they were sent through a corridor to the gas chamber. There was room for three buses. Only the bus garage of Hadamar is preserved.
