The Tinker Air Force Base was established in March 1942 as the Oklahoma City Air Depot for maintainance and repair of B-17, B-24 and B-29 bombers supporting World War II. The base was named after Major General Clarence L. Tinker, a native of Oklahoma.
The location is on the base itself and without a military ID card visitors will have to stop at the Visitor Center to get access.
