The memorial in the City Hall is a gift from the Municipality of Den Helder, as a token of appreciation and gratitude for the help and support that the people of today Scharsterland have offered for the evacuees from Den Helder during the occupation.
The monument is a double wooden memorial bench, on which the municipal coats of arms of Den Helder and Haskerland (now Scharsterland) are applied in relief. A framed certificate comes with the memorial.
In the Town Hall in Joure is a Memorial in memory of Joachim Carel Vegelin van Claerbergen.
Joachim Carel Vegelin van Claerbergen died on 15 may 1940 during the Second World War.
