Memorial Uedemerbruch Stop

In May 1885 on the railway dyke near Uedemerbruch a basic stop was created: a small wooden building with stairs. In 1945 the people and cargo transport was shut down and the stop was cancelled. On this place a memorial has been created for battles during World War Two.

In World War Two, during the battles of the Reichwald and Hochwald forests, the German army, defending their own territory, fought with unyealding tenacity. During these battles the South Alberta Regiment (SAR) 29th Canadian armoured reconnaissance regiment, part of 4th Canadian armoured division and 10th Canadian infantry brigade, suffered its heaviest losses of the war, in men, prisoners of war and equipment.
